GLT NAMED TECHNICAL LEAD FOR ASTM STANDARD E3298 PRACTICE FOR INVENTORY BY EXCEPTION (IBE)

In July 2021, Grant Leading Technology was featured in an ASTM International news release

Washington, D.C., Q4 2021

GLT was the Technical Lead for ASTM Standard E3298 Practice for Inventory by Exception (IBE), published in July 2021. The number one reason that most companies conduct inventories of physical assets is to meet regulatory requirements; however, inventories are a critical way for businesses to know where assets are which, in turn, may affect their bottom line.

Inventory by Exception is oftentimes misunderstood. This Standard clarifies the meaning and use of IBE. IBE allows businesses to only inventory assets that have not already been verified during the inventory period. Any asset connected to a network can be ‘pinged’ and verified, so there is no need to physically inventory these assets; computers, tablets, and other wireless devices are electronically verified. Assets that are ‘touched’ during the inventory period for maintenance or calibration are physically verified. Therefore, the only assets that need a traditional physical inventory and verification using traditional inventory approach are the exceptions.

IBE is proven to decrease the time spent conducting physical inventories and increase inventory accuracy.
